Most people have moved on from the days of writing letters to each other, and as a marketer, it is time for you to move on also. Email marketing is where it’s at, that’s why we are going to teach you how to run a successful email marketing campagin.
1. Build Your Target Audience
This step is the same as almost any other marketing tactic. For email marketing to be effective, your emails must reach the right people. Know who you want your messages to reach. Do you want to reach doctors or stay at home moms? Are you targeting older males? Or are you trying to reach the younger crowd? Once you’ve determined your target audience, you can start to compile a list of contact information for people who fit in that target audience.
2. Have an Attention Grabbing Subject
The subject line of an email is like the headline of a story in the news. It needs to be something that will catch people’s attention and create curiosity all at once. Subject lines should be straight forward with exactly what the email is about. Creating a misleading subject line will quickly ruin yours and your company’s credibility.
3. Keep it Quick and Easy
The body of the email, like the subject line, should be straight to the point. Everyone is busy and wants their information as quickly as possible. If your email is long and overly detailed, it is unlikely that most people will read it all the way through. Keep the information narrowed down to what is the most important and focus on the key points only. Email is just a tool to let people know basic information. So try to keep paragraphs short, usually limited to a sentence or two, or try breaking the information into a bulleted list.
4. Clear Call-to-Action
Make the call-to-action (CTA) as clear as possible. Let people know EXACTLY what you want them to do. The CTA should be clear and concise about you are asking the reader to do. CTAs could be something like asking for people to share something in social media, or it could be a request for more information. Make this step simple. Something like; call to find out more information, or fill out the form below and we’ll contact you with more information.
5. Try, Then Try Again
Even if you have an email marketing strategy that you think is working, don’t be afraid to try new things. There are many different things that could alter the effectiveness of your emails. Try sending the emails at different times of the day, change writing styles, or add or remove images. Different things work on different occasions, so keep trying and change things until you find what works the best.
This step should seem the most obvious, but way too many companies neglect this step. The email itself is important, but it means nothing when someone answers it and you do nothing in response. Always be sure to respond, and respond in a timely manner. These responses help to build relationships with your customers. Answers can be quick and short and are a great opportunity to set up further conversations or meetings down the road, but NEVER neglect to respond.
Email marketing success is easy to achieve if you know how to correctly do it. Following these tips will give you a great start to running a successful email marketing campaign, and soon you will see the benefits that great email marketing brings.
